This article is part 2 of, Why These Sites Can't Compete With Mixx.  If you missed that one; Poof!  There it is.  If you have already read that one, then feel free to continue on and I will share 3 more sites with you that are currently contenders, however, Mixx surpasses each of those as well.  

4.)  Mixx vs. Propeller

Propeller is almost a couple of years old now and it brings along an Alexa rank of 1,780, and a PageRank of 8.  

Propeller is very similar to Digg in a way.  At first it was actually operated by AOL and was the social site for Netscape, however, it branched off on its own.  In Propeller, you either prop or drop stories.  Just some more of that social lingo that comes with the territory.  

What goes on inside Propeller is similar to the way that Digg works, however, it is possible to create your own groups, so there is a bit more activity there, but you cannot add your submissions to your groups from the submission page.  One major thing that I don't like about Propeller is the user friendliness.  There's just too much going on wherever you are.  Doesn't matter what page it is, it just seems like there's stuff all over the place which gives off an overcrowded feeling.  

In Mixx, there is no overcrowding problem.  The place is organized and it's very easy to navigate from one place to another.  If necessary, you may also add your submission to each group you are associated with from the submission page.  It's all very simple stuff.  If Mixx beats Digg, then Propeller should also be no match.

5.)  Mixx vs. Mister-Wong

Mister-Wong; it's different because it actually started out in German, then Russian, Chinese, Spanish, French, and obviously English.  Mister Wong comes in at an Alexa rank of 8,807 and a PageRank of 7.  

It takes a bit more work to add friends in Mister Wong, but this is how things are ranked; you can either save a bookmark from your friends or recommend it.  If you save it, it's like giving the post an up vote, and if you recommend it, it's like sharing it with your friends.  

Mister Wong is not as interactive as Mixx.  You can do the basics of submitting links, adding friends, sharing and commenting.  However, there is a Spotlight page which is nice, but the operations of it must be done behind the scenes because I have no idea how profiles get on there.  There is also a huge tag cloud which is a nice way to find relevant information, if you're looking for that sort of thing.

As we already know, there's more to Mixx than just submitting links, voting, commenting, and adding friends.  While Mister Wong is successful in several languages, Mixx has all the interactivity.  Besides, we don't need all those other languages anyway.

6.)  Mixx vs. Slashdot

Slashdot is a bit different than all of the sites listed so far, but it comes in with the highest PageRank of all, at 9, and an Alexa rank of 932.  

Slashdot is a weird name for a site isn't it?  

The creator actually thought it would be amusing because when you spell it out(http://slashdot.org) you get; slash, slash, slash, dot, dot, org.  Get it?  Now the owner has to kick himself anytime someone asks him to spell it out for them.  

Anyway, in Slashdot you have the ability to submit a bookmark, or a full story, but full stories must pass review.  Only the full stories that make it in have the ability to show up on the front page, but bookmarks via the inner pages are still beneficial for high quality "dofollow" backlinks.  

It is possible to add friends in Slashdot, but it's not as easy as in Mixx and took me a while to notice that it was possible.  I did also read something about a "Slashdot Effect", but you're not going to be getting any direct traffic from the bookmarks so I suppose you would need to submit a full story and have it pass review before you could test that one out.  I have never actually submitted a full story myself so I can't comment on any "Slashdot Effect", but if it's anything like the "Stumble Effect", you can forget it.  

Slashdot is a bit different from the other social sites listed, it seems more like a massive article directory with some user interactivity.  However, you don't need to submit any full stories to Mixx to get more traffic, votes, or comments, and Mixx still has much more interactivity overall.  

Advantage Mixx

So how does Mixx rank?  

Mixx is still under a year and a half old, but it boasts an Alexa rank of 560 and a PageRank of 8.  It matches up to all the rest via the rankings very well, but it's the atmosphere inside that really takes care of the competition.  

If you read the About Mixx page, you will see that Mixx has aspired to be the most interactive site on the net where people come to find news and things that they like, whether that be breaking news, a plain old story, a photograph, or a video.  I believe that Mixx is accomplishing that goal.

Unlike other sites, there is currently no friends limit in Mixx and it's very easy to add more.  I'm currently working on getting 1,000.  Not quite there yet, but it's a work in progress...

When submitting a link, Mixx allows multiple categories and keywords, up to as many as necessary.  Most sites do not allow this.  

Mixx also allows any user to create their own group or community.  Create as many as you like and invite your friends.  It's a great way to encourage activity and get more backlinks.  Many sites do not allow this.  

Mixx has its own blog.  It's good to know what is going on from time to time.  

If you want to place widgets and buttons on your website, you can do that.  Mixx supplies a number of buttons and even widgets that will display popular stories, and they even come with premade code.  People run from code like it's the plague.  

You've never been noticed before?  Mixx gives out tons of awards for activity:  conversation starter, most opinionated, most contentious, enthusiast, hyperactive, curmudgeon, thought leader, top ten, news hound, big kudos, Mixx picks, top comment, and pollster.  

If that's not enough, you can even become a Super Mixxer by being active enough for 30 days, or a Power Mixxer by being active enough for 15 days.  You get a nice little badge to go on your profile.  You know, they say that the Super Mixxer badge is the best badge in the world?  I know, I know, we don't really need any awards, but it's still nice to be noticed sometimes.  

Believe it or not, Mixx also has a store.  That's right.  You can get Mixxing while drinking coffee from your very own Mixx mug, while wearing your Mixx shirt or cap, and don't forget to keep your mouse on your Mixx mousepad.  I love stores.

I could go on about how much better Mixx is than the other guys, but they are already Champion of Social Media, so why bother?  By the way, I don't really have any authority to declare Mixx Champion of Social Media.  It is nice to be noticed though.
