The Roadster is the first electric car to be produced by Tesla Motors, which was founded back in 2003 by Martin Eberhard.  The plans of Tesla Motors were obviously criticized, but they did produce the Roadster which runs on electricity and can reach 60mph in just 4 seconds.  

With a price tag of $100,000 not too many people will be able to take advantage of the Roadster, but Tesla Motors hopes to come out with a mainstream electric car that will cost half as much around 2009.  This would be an incredible achievement seeing as how it costs a lot of money to produce cars, not to mention that Tesla Motors is basically a brand new company.  

According to Tesla Motors, the cost of the Roadster is so high because they want to build the best car possible without making the customer have to compromise.  This way, the customer will receive the best quality, the best performance, and the best technology possible.  

When purchasing the Roadster there will be an option to also purchase solar generation.  This solar generation will be attached to the roof of your house, which will store up energy and spin your meter backwards.  When the car needs to be charged the meter will spin foward again and electricity will charge up the car.  

The fact is, that it's time we started producing and using more energy efficient resources, cars included.  Since no one else was offering this at the time, Martin Eberhard decided to get the wheels turning and Tesla Motors was formed.  They will look to develop more cars in the near future that will be accessible to more people, cheaper, and useful in other ways that might not have been thought of yet.

The Tesla Roadster is green, it's fast, and it looks really good.  Only problem is the cost...oh, and the charging, but they knew that already.
