The Tesla Model S will be the second electric car produced by Tesla Motors, which will look to change the way that people get from place to place.  Tesla Motors looks to give the Model S a 300 mile range, which will easily get you out of town, as well as a battery charge time topping out at 45 minutes.

A 45 minute recharge time is a vast improvement on Tesla's first model, the Roadster, which took several hours to fully charge.

The Tesla Model S will be large enough to transport a family and should travel 2 to 3 times further than the electric models currently in production by other companies.  However, Tesla Motors may need to worry about two very important factors in the time being; finances, and the economy.

To make the Tesla Model S a success, Tesla Motors is counting on federal funding for everything that has been planned.  They will also need to count on the existence of the whole automotive supply chain for parts since the chassis of the Model S will be built from the ground up.

After a $7,500 tax credit the price of the Tesla Model S will be $49,000.  Even if it is a good car, it may not be able to compete with some of the other manufacturers who will probably be selling their electric cars at a much cheaper price.

Batteries like the Li-Ion and Li-Polymer are expensive and hard to keep cool.  This may be one of the main issues that electric car manufacturers will have to address in the future, in order for electric cars to become mainstream.  If Tesla's cars are going to be a success, they may need some help especially seeing as how they would like to bring their concept to reality in under 3 years time.

The Model S is definitely more affordable than the Roadster, charge time is much improved, and it still looks great.  I'll take 3!
