Why are people so afraid of starting their own home business?

Here are some reasons:

Lonliness.
Many people believe; that entrepreneurs are very lonely, that they do too much work and don't have fun, that they need to learn everything to start their own business, and that they wouldn't be able to afford teaching to gain necessary knowledge.
The truth is, that one person running a business alone, has the highest failure rate, so although one person cannot do everything themselves, cannot know everything, and cannot have all the skills imaginable; one person can include partners in their business with certain skills, and knowledge to compliment their own. Find others who love to work, and are committed.

Stress.
Many people believe; that entrepreneurs seem demanding and desperate, that their families depend on their income, and that a single bad debt or mistake could ruin their business.
The truth is that some entrepreneurs love to work, and can afford to turn down business opportunities. Many entrepreneurs pursue leisure activities, instead of working long hours. If your business meets needs, then you will have customers, and little stress.

No time.
Many people believe; that they would need more time to start their own home business, since they are living paycheck to paycheck, that they would need more hours to be able to work more, or that they wouldn't know where to find the time. Do your research. If you find a need that you can meet, take your time, use partners to share the work load, and do your research well; then you will make time, and be more confident.

Don't know what to do.
Many people don't know where to learn the information that they need to start their own business, or they have tried to learn, but it didn't work out.
If you spend time with other entrepreneurs, you will gain experience, and understanding. Get a mentor. People want to see newbies succeed. Wouldn't you? Some people will generously help out with their own time, and counsel.

Fear of failure.
Most people believe; that it would be too devestating to fail if they started their own business, that their whole life could be affected, or that they wouldn't be able to daydream about running their own business, while they were loathing their jobs (that one is mind boggling).
The truth is; failure is how we learn to succeed at many things. Many people get right back up after failing at something, and try again. Don't overcommit, and run out of gas. Instead, get resilient, and know that no entrepreneur succeeds at everything.

Too much competition.
Many people believe; that big corporations have all the money, the government, the IRS, and intimidation on their sides.
The truth is; that if you find a need that is not being met, you will attract attention, and bigger companies will notice. This can be done. It has been done.

Not enough income.
Many people believe; that they would need more money to start their own business on the internet, or that it is not worth investing their money because it is too risky.
The truth is; that much of your business can be operated for free, as long as you are meeting a need.

No ideas to share.
Many people believe; that they are not creative enough to start their own business, or that entrepreneurs always have great ideas, that don't always pay off.
It's all in how you perceive it! This is key. Start learning, before you think about creativity. Don't just try and think of a certain idea, and then look for buyers.
Find a need that is not being met, or that you could improve, and meet it.

No self confidence.
Many people believe; that they become to easily discouraged, intimidated, or don't have enough courage to start their own business.
Don't fear the unknown, or the lies of network marketing. Many entrepreneurs make the same mistakes over, and over, and do not learn from them. Learning from mistakes, is how we move forward towards success.

No skills.
Many people don't know how to begin. Owning your own business is not rocket science. It could easily be taught. Get with some entrepreneurs, and learn from them. Work with others, provide help to eachother, and combine your skills together to get things done.

There are many reasons to start a home business. Many people just don't know what to do, and they believe things that aren't necessarily true. What is there to really be afraid of, when you can easily learn how to run a business at home, on your computer? Follow those who have had success, apply the things that you learn, and help others achieve success as well. Find a mentor, to be a mentor. You can do this. The only thing that is stopping you; is you. Why be afraid, when success comes next?
